What would you do for one million dollars? Besides killing your worst enemy (I really don’t need to hear any murder plots). What act, whether deplorable or not, would you commit to secure one hundred million in your possession? The reason I ask is because unless you have been hiding under a rock, don’t have a television, or just can’t stand sports you probably heard about the PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) scandal.
The suspension and possible career ending of one of the most well known athletes in the world have happened! Now, I know this is off subject and has little to do with our exercise world; yet, just as these athletes were trying to become their best version, I want to know the 100 million dollar risk you would take in becoming the best version of you! I would have to say the best version of me would have 100 million dollars in the bank. Maybe more! So, you are probably wondering where this hundred million dollars comes into play?
Well, a very big name player originally signed a contract with the New York Yankees for 275 million. That said, before the contract signing it was later found out that he used PEDs for years while he was on the Texas Rangers. Let’s just say those PEDs are what got him that contract. Would you take that very same risk (social and health) if you knew you would get a hundred million in the end?
I kind of ponder that question and…..I think I would, and I see why many of the players would commit to that risk. From the time many of these players were young, they were loved and placed on a high pedestal. Many of them were celebrities in their own right!
When they made it professionally, they were still well known, but because of a large ego they knew they had potential to be a God amongst their peers. They knew they could make more money than God, have endless amounts of resources, and have the best of the best of everything!
Let’s just say whatever they are taking decreases their life expectancy by 10 years. Yet, in-between that time period they live the life that most won’t ever see in three life times! What about being caught? Well, the worst thing they have to worry about is a life time of heckling by people who already hate them anyway.
So, what if they don’t make it to the hall of fame? Alex Rodriguez, Mark Maguire, Barry Bonds will never be forgotten. In good time, every other upstanding person will!
The hall of fame is designed to not forget legends. All they will become are legends outside the hall of fame. They will continue to live a luxurious life with the love of many fans until their end. It would be very difficult to not sign on the dotted line. That being said……would you?
