Don’t Quit Before You Start

With a new year comes the new year resolutions, and for most people it involves getting back in shape or losing some of those extra pounds. For the majority of people these resolutions end before they have a chance to get started. The following are a few ways to help keep your resolution going, or to just help get it started in general.

Set realistic goals…

The biggest reason people fail their new years resolution is because they set goals that are unrealistic. Setting a goal to lose 30lbs in the first month would be a good example of this. When people see that they can’t meet these goals, they end up quitting. So, set a goal that is obtainable but still challenging to help keep you motivated. When you meet these goals, it will keep you motivated to keep progressing.

Plan out your workout…

I have seen it too many times where a person goes to the gym but doesn’t have a clue as to what exercises they want to do. That person spends most of the time just walking around looking at the equipment without actually working out! They eventually get bored or frustrated and end up quitting. Before you get to the gym, have your workout planed in advance and stay committed to completing it.

Not sure as to what to do for your workout? That’s not a problem. There are plenty of websites and literature at your exposure that have workouts already created for you! If you are a little skeptical and want something geared more towards you, talk to a trainer! You don’t need to spend a lot of money or buy multiple sessions with them. I have had plenty of clients that I met with only once or twice and created workouts that they could do on their own! Although this isn’t ideal for the trainer, it should be enough to get you started, and you can always go back and get new exercises as you progress!

Get a workout partner…

Although this might not be possible for everyone, it’s an effective way to keep up with your workout goals. Preferably, find someone with close to or the same goals you have in mind. Having someone to workout with not only makes it more enjoyable, but it also provides you with someone to help keep you motivated! If you know your friend is relying on you to be at the gym, then that will keep you going as well!

Hopefully these tips will help you with your new years resolution or just help start it in the first place! There will be a lot of hurdles in your way, but keep yourself dedicated and focused on your goals!
