We have all done it, many times in fact, participating in that sweet late night temptation. First off, get your mind out of the gutter you sicko’s, I am talking about FOOD here! Having that midnight snack before bedtime. It has gotten a bad rap over the years, people saying its not good because “It will sit in your stomach,” or “It will just turn to fat.” Well those people are incorrect my friends!
According to research published in the “American Journal of Nutrition” in October of 2008, those who over-eat during evening hours are more prone to weight gain. However, those who ove-reat at any time throughout the day are just as likely to gain weight.
Calories are calories regardless of how you look at them. When you burn more calories then you consume, you get weight loss. When you consume more calories then you burn, you get weight gain. The problem most people have is they don’t realize how much they are eating. Most Americans eat in front of the T.V. or computer and before they know it they just annihilated a bag of potato chips or a half gallon of ice cream, which will cause you to put on weight and is usually due to improper eating habits during the day.
Plan ahead for what you are going to eat before bed, and try to keep it healthy! Eating every three hours is good for us. it helps regulate blood sugar, and helps us maintain a healthy weight. Going to bed hungry can actually slow your metabolism down and burn less fat. Your body also repairs itself while you sleep, and it consumes calories in the process. So do you and your body a favor and eat something before you sleep!
